Piling Protection
Piling wrap is an essential part of protecting your new or existing structure from boring and ship worm damage.
Step 1: Pre-Wrap
A base of industrial strength stretch film to prevent the infestation of boring and ship worms, otherwise known as the "termite of the sea".
Step 2: Polypropylene Sleeve
Layer of polypropylene wrap to protect the inner layer from any tears and deprive the piling of any light source that the worm's need to survive.
Step 3: Stainless Steel Nails
Fasten the outer layer with a tight line of stainless steel nails spaced 2-3" apart to prevent any growth from penetrating the seams.
Boring/Ship Worms
"Termites of the Sea"
Boring/ship worms cause more than $55 million a year in damage to waterfront structures on the East and West coasts of the US.
These wood eating worms breed and reproduce during the warmer season. It takes approximately 5 weeks to develop from an egg to larvae.
Use their shells as a "drill" to burrow into the wood. The wood itself serves as their food source.
